Can you use outdoor plant pots indoors?
Sometimes, outdoor pots have the perfect design and size, but they come with one big drawback – the drainage hole. While essential for outdoor plants, that hole can spell disaster for your indoor surfaces. While planting houseplants in pots without drainage holes requires a bit of extra attention and care, it can be done successfully with the right approach. By choosing the appropriate potting mix, creating a drainage layer, and monitoring watering habits, you can create a thriving environment for your green companions.
How to prepare outdoor plants to bring inside?
Spray with Insecticidal Soap: Before bringing your plants indoors, thoroughly spray their leaves, stems, and trunks with insecticidal soap to eliminate any remaining pests. Allow the spray to dry thoroughly before bringing the plants inside. While vinegar is often used in the kitchen, it’s also a powerful pest repellent. The acidity in vinegar helps to repel ants, fruit flies, and other common house pests. Mix equal parts water and vinegar to create a spray that can be applied to the leaves or around the base of your plants. One chemical-free option is to simply dunk the entire plant, pot and all, if possible, in a bucket of water for several minutes to remove or kill insect pests. You may need to do this more than once. Or, at least use a squirt bottle and spray water on the entire plant,” Tiddens suggested.
