Looked it up, also known as Agave Americana. Even though it is called a Century plant, it blooms at about 25 to 30 years. Once it blooms, sadly the plant dies. Living here in Southern California we see lots of these, but it is more unusual to see this beautiful bloom. American agave growing in the arid house put up its flowering stalk. Having lived for 80 years in the arid house before blooming, it nearly lived up to the plant’s nickname, “century plant. Recently, a seedling of this great was planted in its original place in the arid house.
