What plants can survive in extremely dry places?
The Cactus is the ultimate survivor in very dry conditions. Its thick, fleshy, water-storing stems and the waxy coating covering it, which minimizes moisture loss, enable the Cactus to store water. Other plants like Lavender, Yucca, and Agave also do very well in extremely dry conditions. Drought-resistant crops are varieties of plants that are specially designed or naturally adapted to thrive with minimal water. These crops have evolved or been genetically modified to reduce water consumption, optimize water usage, and endure dry conditions.Some plants are even “drought resistant”, meaning that they can survive long periods with no water at all (such as a cactus). Drought tolerant plants still need some water and are simply considered to be “low water” plants.
What plants are good for outside all year round?
Evergreen flowering perennials will keep their green foliage all year, long after the blooming season is over. Many herbs are particularly known for being great practical flowering plants with evergreen foliage, such as Lavender, Rosemary, and Salvia, among others. Some plants work well in pots all year round. These include hardy evergreen foliage plants like yucca, English ivy, variegated euonymus and heuchera, and flowering plants like Skimmia japonica and hebes.
