I started painting clay pots years ago while working in a craft store and nursery. It is an easy and inexpensive way to dress up the garden as well as a thoughtful way to personalize a plant gift. You gather clay, smelt it into terracotta, then dye that terracotta with any of the 16 available dyes. After that, you smelt it again to get that lovely hardened, glossy finish. Then, you can arrange these colored terracotta blocks beneath or around your flower pots.
