A wildflower (or wild flower) is a flower that grows in the wild, rather than being intentionally seeded or planted. The term implies that the plant is neither a hybrid nor a selected cultivar that is any different from the native plant, even if it is growing where it would not naturally be found. Also know as species tulips, these low-growing beauties are long-lived and hardy flowers that can withstand stormy spring weather. Wildflower Tulips will multiply every year, so plant along rock walls, walkways, and garden borders where they can spread over time.A wildflower (or wild flower) is a flower that grows in the wild, rather than being intentionally seeded or planted.Annual wildflowers must be planted in the spring; or in a late fall dormant seeding. These plants need to reseed themselves to ensure flowers the following year. Planting them too late in spring or summer may not allow the plants to mature and produce viable seeds. Why Wildflowers Matter. Wildflower meadows provide a vital habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. With pollinator populations declining, planting wildflowers is a practical way to support the environment while enhancing the natural beauty of your site.
