What plants like a lot of direct sunlight?
Sun-loving plants such as cacti, succulents and certain tropical plants thrive in direct sunlight. Plants that fruit heavily, like peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, melons, and squash, all need full sun—though in hot Southern gardens, these plants may appreciate a little afternoon shade, too.West-Facing Garden: A west-facing gardens get plenty of afternoon and evening sun, perfect for enjoying warm evenings outdoors. A west-facing garden can get quite hot in the summer afternoons. East-Facing Garden: These gardens receive the morning sun, which is gentle and perfect for shade-loving plants.
What flowering plant grows well in full sun?
Select from an extensive offering of annual flowers that thrive in full sun. Sunflowers, petunias, zinnias, marigolds, and more. Many perennials thrive in full sun, especially lavender. Of course it depends on your growing zone. In our Master Gardener plot, zone 7a, we have lavender, hibiscus, echinachea, sage, irises, daylilies, sedum, and many others in full sun. As for annuals, zinnias do very well.Sun loving coleus and bronze leafed wax begonias may work. Just keep the soil moist. Purple Heart (Setcreasea purpurea), pentas, and four o’clocks are other annuals to consider. For perennials try dwarf Mexican petunia (Ruellia), lilyturf, daylilies, and speedwell (Veronica).
