Would we be able to live without trees?
No life could exist on Earth without trees. Trees produce most of the oxygen that humans and wildlife breathe. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen using the process of photosynthesis (see explanation below). Forests act as giant air filters for the entire world. However, at night, plants do not perform photosynthesis due to the absence of sunlight. But respiration still goes on. Hence, as compared to oxygen, the proportion of carbon dioxide around the trees is more. Thus, if we sleep under a tree at night, we may feel suffocated due to lack of oxygen.Unlike the daytime when photosynthesis occurs and trees release oxygen, nighttime respiration results in the opposite effect. Therefore, it’s advisable not to sleep under trees at night to avoid exposure to increased levels of carbon dioxide.
What does Jesus say about trees?
Jesus himself declared that the kingdom of heaven is like a tree (Matthew 13:31–32). The only thing that Jesus ever harmed was a tree (Mark 11:12–14, 20–21), and the only thing that could kill him was a tree. After Jesus was resurrected, he was mistaken for a gardener (John 20:15). He is hungry, sees a fig tree in leaf, inspects it, finds nothing but leaves, and curses it, saying, “May no fruit ever come from you again! Surprisingly, the tree withers immediately (Matt. The OT has many miracles of judgment, but outside of this instance, Jesus’ miracles bring healing and grace.
