Is Ecosia AI greenwashing?
Ecosia isn’t doing this for profit, but the underlying idea of their claim – that “AI” can be green – is important for the profit-seeking tech industry, striking at a fast-growing tension between the goals of companies and the biophysical vulnerabilities of living things. Does Ecosia track you?

What are the downsides of Ecosia?
Another concern when using ecosia is data privacy. Since ecosia generates its revenue from ads, user data can be collected and potentially shared with third parties. This can be a problem for users who value privacy. In addition, there is a dependency on bing as search engine. Ecosia uses bing and its own search algorithms. Ecosia’s association with bing is not brilliant, as microsoft, which owns bing, has also been avoiding paying tax. However, the tree planting element of ecosia gives it the ethical alternative search engine edge over google.
